Sophie & Jake met at a work Christmas party when Jake decided to save his number in Sophie’s phone as “future boyfriend” … and now he’s her husband! They’re both 32 and live locally to The Old Barn, in Bideford, with their two boys and family dog. Sophie told us all about their bid day …
What made you choose The Old Barn?
After telling my brother to book The Old Barn for his wedding (due to how lovely it is) we did shop around so we didn’t copy … but nothing compared! The Barn itself looks amazing and the ability to make it your own makes it perfect … and then knowing how fab Joss and the team are was the icing on the cake for us! We also always knew we wanted children at our wedding so the space and relaxed atmosphere the Barn offers was exactly what we wanted.
Was it important to you that it was a ‘DIY’ venue?
Being a self-confessed control freak I wanted to be in control of as much as possible. I love anything crafty and being able to make things myself, so this gave us the freedom to do this.
Did you have a large budget?
We wanted to keep our budget as low as possible, so getting as much as we could from places like Vinted meant we were able to get extras like a photobooth. I would say we spent around £13k for absolutely everything.
What sort of vibe were you aiming for for the day?
It was very important for us to have a laid-back, fun atmosphere. We have two boys and a lot of our family and friends have children, so we really wanted the wedding to be fun for everyone!
We went for an olive green, white and gold colour theme which helped keep the fuss-free style we were looking for.
What did you wear?
I wore a Madi Lane dress brought from the lovely Gail at Always and Forever … plus fabulous leopard print shoes! Jake wore a suit from Next.
What about your food and drink?
As a couple we LOVE proper home cooking and wanted everyone to go home with full bellies! We had a 3-course roast followed by amazing cupcakes and a chippy tea to finish … plus a sweet/crisp table and dessert table along the way too!
What about entertainment?
Luckily the sun made an appearance so our garden games kept everyone entertained throughout the day. Later we had a photobooth followed by an evening disco which everyone enjoyed!
What was the best part of the day for you?
Jake would say his video from Ed Sheeran … but the best part of the day for me was having everyone together under one roof. It’s not very often you get everyone close to you together, and seeing them all having fun and laughing was the best!
What did your guests think of the dodgems?
Everyone LOVED them! It’s a fab way to fill the gap in the day and it brought so many laughs. The photos of everyone’s faces speak for themselves.
Are you glad you had the day you did?
Other than wishing the day went slower so we could take more in we wouldn’t change a thing!
Did you feel well taken care of by The Old Barn team?
YES!! They are all amazing and we couldn’t have asked for a better team looking after us 😊
