The Old Barn itself is a unique and photogenic wedding venue – but the bigger picture reveals that it’s also in a marvellous location: North Devon, a place of beauty, history and contrast. Our couples love to enjoy the coast and countryside surrounding The Old Barn. Many take advantage of the stunning photo opportunities on their actual wedding day, whilst others enjoy exploring North Devon as part of a ‘long weekend wedding break’ – often joined by friends and family, making their celebration a real shared experience. Take a look at some of the beautiful places you could explore and enjoy as part of your celebrations at The Old Barn.

Clovelly

“Discover the timeless village of Clovelly, where the steep, cobbled street tumbles down past gleaming white cottages to the tiny, deep-blue harbour…” The famous sights of pretty Clovelly, just 2 miles from The Old Barn, have inspired art and poetry over the centuries, and many couples who want special images of their wedding day – such as Sophie and Danny. The steep cobbled streets, traditional inns and cottages and atmospheric harbour are all fantastic to explore, and look beautiful in photographs. More …

Hartland Quay

The huge cliffs of Hartland Quay drop down to wild waters below – which makes it a very dramatic place, with rock formations not evident anywhere else. Photographs can be taken on the rocky beach (tide permitting of course!), or on the clifftops, with a super-stunning backdrop of Bideford Bay and Lundy Island. More …

Bucks Mills

Take the route down the hill to the pebbly beach, waterfalls and rockpools of historic Buck Mills and you’ll stroll past traditional cottages and limekilns. From the beach there are of course spectacular ocean views. More …

Westward Ho!

This huge stretch of sandy beach backed by a pebble ridge and nature reserve is also a popular family resort, with amusements, ice cream, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The beach makes a great spot for photographs, and the village makes for a nice evening out.

Bideford

This is the closest town to The Old Barn. Known as the ‘Little White Town’, it’s set by the wide banks of the River Torridge, and also has some cobbled street and very old buildings. It’s got lots of modern amenities too, and would make a nice place to explore as a day or night out, or base for you and your guests.

Croyde, Saunton, Woolacombe & Ilfracombe

These well-known beaches, towns and villages are around a 30-45 minute drive from The Old Barn, and well worth a visit. Croyde’s known for its surf culture and pretty thatched cottages, whilst the long sandy beach at Saunton, backed by the dunes and Braunton Burrows nature reserve, is a well-known beauty spot and the scene of many dramatic photographs and films. Woolacombe is yet another stunning family- and surf-friendly stretch of beach, whilst Ilfracombe’s harbour is the home of Damien Hirst’s awe-inspiring sculpture, Verity.

Exmoor

Exmoor National Park’s moors and rugged coastline makes it popular with walkers – and again, unsurprisingly, photographers. Its red, orange and purple hues make it particularly pretty in the autumn. If you’re lucky, you might get to spot some of its native inhabitants: wild deer, stags and ponies. More …
